CRISTIANO Ronaldo transferred his sparkling Manchester United form to the international arena with two goals in Portugal’s 4-0 win over Belgium.
“We created lots of opportunities in the first half but failed to score,” said Ronaldo. “In the second we showed more guts and were fortunate to net goals in the first minutes.”
Nuno Gomes gave the hosts the lead and Ronaldo struck two minutes later.
Ricardo Quaresma’s spectacular volley made it 3-0 before Ronaldo swept in from the right to score.
Nicolas Anelka made a triumphant return to the France team, after three years in the wilderness, with the only goal of a 1-0 win.
“It is the Nicolas I like to see,” said French coach Raymond Domenech. “When he shows these qualities, he is a candidate for a permanent place.” [Via]
